Often times players’ talents begin to show on the football field as juniors. That’s the case with Benjamin Lawler. The 6-foot-3, 190-pounds quarterback sat out last season with an illness, but is now showing his talents.

“I had to sit out my sophomore season because of mononucleosis,” said Lawler. “It took a few games to get past average (performance),” he said. “I’m throwing the ball really well now. We’re on a five game winning streak,” he continued.

Lawler doesn’t throw much, but he’s been efficient when he puts the ball into the air.

“My stats for my last three games are 17 of 24 for 336 yards, plus ten carries for 54 yards,” he said. Lawler’s best game came against Bryan Station (Ky.) earlier in the season. He went 7 for 8 passing for 143 yards in the win.

Even though Scott County is a run oriented team, Lawler’s skill set is solid.

“My strengths are my determination, team-first attitude, passing accuracy, arm strength, passing mobility and ball-handling,” Lawler said. “I want to get better at managing long drives and reading defenses,” he finished.

Lawler has yet to receive a scholarship offers, but he’s getting interest from several programs, regionally. Those programs are Cincinnati, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Kent State, Toledo, Western Kentucky and Murray State.

“I have had unofficial visits to Cincinnati, Kentucky and Vanderbilt. I was impressed with the coaches, facilities and campuses at all three,” he said.

But as a junior, Lawler’s main focus is his high school and helping them achieve their goals.

“We want to continue to improve each week, win our district, win regionals and then state,” he finished.
