Austin Davis is listed as a fullback on the St. Xavier roster, but he does a lot more than just block for the 6-A power. Davis carries the ball and does it effectively. In 11 games, Davis had 81 carries for 620 yards and eight touchdowns.
"I feel good about my play last season. But as all players say, I think I could have done better," Davis said. "I could have done better if I had more opportunities," he continued.
Davis's strengths are evident when you see him on film, but he wants to take things up another notch as well.
"My strengths are that I'm hard working. I have speed. I have tremendous size for a running back and fullback and I can catch, run and block as well," he said. "I want to get faster, stronger and slim down a little bit to get my speed up. Last year I got a little out of shape with my weight and stuff."
The 5-foot-10, 215-pound junior, has a couple of favorite programs he's interested in and is also hoping to check out a few other programs this spring.
"I really want to play for Florida State or Arkansas," he said. "But I'm looking around at all types of schools, really. I want to play where ever I can get on the field to help my team out. In the spring time, I want to go down to Vanderbilt, Purdue and Arkansas again," he said.
Davis and his St. Xavier teammates are likely to be one of the favorites for the 6-A state championship this season. Davis is excited about the possibilities.
"I'm really excited about my team next year. I think we're going to win it all. I really like the quarterback we have in B.J. Nagle. He's a great guy and a great teammate and I can't wait to play with him," he finished.
