Belfry got the better part of Prestonsburg in the 4th quarter their last meeting, sending the game into overtime, with Belfry coming out on top 20-14. Belfry Coach Philip Haywood says that this game will be no different. "We expect a hard-fought, well coached team," Haywood says. "Prestonsburg is an athletic team with nine or ten starters back from last year on defense and they know how to get to the ball."
Haywood will rely on his two star running backs, Doug Howard and David Jones. Jones, already committed to the University of Kentucky as a cornerback, shares the load with Howard in Haywood's wishbone offense. Both Howard and Jones have run for over 1,300 yards each, as well as over 20 touchdowns a piece this season. Howard is garnering some national attention himself with some Division I-AA schools, as well as a Division I-A school.
"We learned a lot from the game against Prestonsburg and that's important for a team that had little experience coming into this season," Haywood continues, "At the beginning of the season we set a goal of getting better each week and so far we've met that goal," says Haywood.
According to Haywood, Prestonsburg will use a spread offense, but will try to run the ball off of the pass, spending half of the game in the shotgun.
This Friday night at Belfry could be another matchup that will play long into the night with neither side giving up much.
