Saint Xavier won the state championship last season in part due to an explosive running game, which was anchored by LaMont McMurry, a 2011 running back.

Many people may see LaMont McMurry and his 5-foot-9, 187-pound frame and not think football player. Despite his smallish size, McMurry is a tough-minded, gritty player, who bounced back from a traumatic injury.

"I did real good (last season)," said McMurry. "My sophomore year, I tore my retna. I came back and played after being out for three months. Everybody questioned me about my play. But I came back strong for my junior year," he said.

McMurry had a great showing last year, rushing for 1034 yards and accounting for over 2000 all-purpose yards. He also had 21 touchdowns for the Tigers. While his numbers were impressive, McMurry wants to get better.

"I want to improve the strength in my legs," he said. "I have already improved on it. But I have to try it in a game. I stayed in the weight room and got my squat up. I want to start running people over," he said.

"I consider my speed and my moves as my strengths," he said. "I have really good vision. I have good eyes. My vision starts everything," he finished.

McMurry, while slightly under the radar, has received quite a bit of attention from several programs. "I heard a lot from Alabama. Michigan, Illinois and Cincinnati are talking to me," he said. "I didn't hear from Notre Dame when Coach Weis was there, but now Coach Kelly is recruiting me. I'm going to visit them this week," he said.

"I like Indiana too. I felt at home when I went out there," he said.

And what about the two big in-state programs? "I hear from Louisville and Kentucky too. That's the first two schools I heard from," he said.

"Monday I'm going to Louisville. I have been to some practices at Kentucky, but I haven't been to camp though. I'll look into it," he said.

While the attention is there, McMurry has only two offers on the table at the moment. But that could change at anytime. "Louisville and Kentucky have offered. Indiana and Cincinnati are evaluating me. They said I helped myself out at the camps," he said.

McMurry also camped this weekend with defending BCS Champion, Alabama. "I felt like I did real good at Alabama. I got a chance to meet coach Saban. I thought he was a soft-spoken man. But when he started talking to us, I realized he was a hardcore coach. He means what he says," said McMurry.

LaMont is in no hurry to make his college decision. He plans to look at academics and the depth-charts at the programs he's considering.

"I was thinking about (deciding) before we got back to school. But now I that I think about it, there are so many doors opening for me. I might wait until the end of the season," he said.

"The most important thing is academics. After there, I want to play, not necessarily right away. I don't want to go anywhere where I have to sit for too long," he finished.
